Getting started in Boy Scouts

1) Sign up!
The troop requires a completed BSA application. This form can be obtained from the adult leaders at one of our troop meetings. The troop also requires a registration payment. The membership registration fee for a Scout may change from year to year so will not be listed here. For families with more than one Scout, the dues are reduced. The registration fee includes a subscription to the monthly Scouting magazine. The completed registration form and payment should be submitted to the Committee Chairperson.

2) Don an official uniform.
Scouts wear a 'Class A' Boy Scout shirt to troop meetings and sometimes when we travel. Uniform items can be purchased at any Boy Scout shop. Troop 44 will provide the neckerchief w/ slide. A 'Class B' Boy Scout shirt is a more comfortable T-shirt style shirt that is worn during outside activities on occasion. Troop 44 will provide the Class B shirt.

3) Get yourself a Scout Handbook.
The handbook will be with you for your entire scouting career. It is recommended that a cover be purchased to protect your handbook. The handbook can be ordered online or purchased at any Boy Scout shop.

4) Have fun!
You will start out by attending one of our troop weekly meetings, where you will be introduced to the Troop and start your journey. The troop meetings schedule and location information are listed on this website.

Parents should read the Youth Protection Guide with their son before starting any Boy Scout activities. The guide is a removable pamphlet located in the front of the Boy Scout Handbook.
