How We Set Goals
The three aims of Scouting represent the long-term Scouting outcomes we want for every boy. They form the bedrock of Scouting, and underlie everything we do. To achieve these aims, we use the Eight Methods of Scouting. Goals are set by focusing on the improvement in one or more of the scouting methods.
2019 Goals - Focus on Leadership Development
A main focus this year is on leadership development. Many Scouts will require leadership roles in order to advance in rank. The goal is to continue moving toward a boy-led troop and provide Scouts with the tools they need to be successful.
2018 Goals - Continued focus on the the Patrol Method and the Outdoor Program
Good progress has been made on the patrol method and the outdoor program. All patrols have successfully prepared their own meals using their patrol boxes. The outdoor program included campouts at Hamonnasset, Timberlin, Sage Park, Burlingame, White Memorial, and Yawgoog. The troop went on a 7.5 mile kayaking trip for the first time.
2017 Goals - Focus on the following methods
The Patrol Method - Provide an opportunity for patrol leaders to lead a patrol activity at least once per month. Use the patrol method during at least four overnight campouts.
Outdoor Programs - Have at least one outdoor troop activity per month. This can be a hike, overnight campout, or a one-day outdoor event.
Advancement - Establish advancement policies and procedures. Track attendance and participation in order to help determine advancement qualifications. All Scouts to advance at least one rank.
Leadership Development - Provide job descriptions for all troop leadership positions. Fill all troop leadership positions. Conduct in-house training using Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST) course. ILST “teaches Scouts with leadership positions about their new roles and how to most effectively reach success in that role. It is intended to help Boy Scouts in leadership positions within their troop understand their responsibilities and to equip them with organizational and leadership skills to fulfill those responsibilities.”
The Uniform - Establish a uniform policy. Conduct uniform inspections once per month.
